When detaching the existing pipes from the engine the ends break at the insertion area. The original pipes lasted 228k miles but I don't think they've ever been removed from the engine. If they were removed I'm certain the ends would've broken. I'm disappointed in BMW's mechanical engineering, these parts could've been made better. My recommendation is don't remove the existing pipes unless it's absolutely necessary.
